Smith & Jones Consulting has an in-house IT department headed by Janet Twomey (the IT manager). Due to time constraints they have decided to outsource the initial installation of the network and server upgrades to a local company specialising in this area. After the new network is installed it will be maintained by the in-house IT department.
Smith & Jones Consulting, on the recommendation of Janet Twomey (the IT manager), has authorised you to implement a wireless network to provide secure network access for all wireless and portable devices of employees.
After much investigation you have determine the network configuration requirements for Stage 1 of this project. You are now required to implement this Stage 1 network according to these configurations. (Refer to the following Project resources for the network configuration requirements).

Task
In this part of the assessment your task is to build a network following the topology shown above in the Network Topology diagram (Figure 1).
This has been broken down into the following sections:
Section 1: Prepare network environment
Section 2: Configure wireless network, security and other key parameters

Section 4: Test and troubleshoot wireless network
Section 1. Prepare network environment
In this section you will be creating your network environment in Cisco Packet Tracer.
Step 1.1: Load the network configuration files
Open ICTNWK405_Packet_Tracer_File.pka with Cisco Packet Tracer to implement the network.
You will notice that some configurations have already been completed. This includes all required devices having already been positioned on the workspace.
Hint: Checking settings
To check what other settings have already been completed, look at the Activity window, click on the button and then select the Assessment Items tab. Listed are all the Assessment Items and their completion status. A green tick indicates the Assessment Item is already complete.
Save your file as ICTNWK405_Packet_Tracer_File_<Your_Name>.pka where <Your_Name> is your full name.

Section 2. Configure wireless network, security and other key parameters

  • Complete each of the following steps in order using the settings supplied in the nominated table.
  • The above tables contain settings and configurations that have been determined from the commercial and business requirements for Smith & Jones Consulting’s wireless network. This includes wireless, security and other key parameters.
  • Note: Some settings have already been set. Please refer to Hint: Checking settings above to determine these settings.

  • To check that all settings have been completed, look at the Activity window. At this stage your completion percent in the bottom right corner will not be 100%.
  • You can check this by clicking on the button and then select the Assessment Items tab. Listed are all the Assessment Items and their completion status. A green tick indicates the Assessment Item is complete.
  • You may see a list of incomplete Assessment Items by clicking the under the Assessment Items tab. If you have not correctly completed all Assessment Items then revise your work until they are all correct.


Section 4. Test and troubleshoot wireless network
Step 4.1: Verify network connectivity.
Use the ping command to test connectivity between all network devices.
Use the following table to methodically verify and document connectivity with each network device.
