Introduction
A project is "a temporary effort to create a unique product, service, or result" (PMI, 2017); a program is "a temporary structure of interrelated projects managed together that provides advantages and contributes to the achievement of objectives" (Oltmann 2008); and a portfolio is "a collection of programmes and projects grouped together to facilitate their management to meet organizational objectives". The report is intended to discuss different aspects of the management of projects, programmess & portfolios in relation to governance, the significance of program & portfolio management, and maintaining and developing a business case in this regard. The report will discuss all these concepts with supporting literature and in the context of organizing a Crossrail programme in order to manage the successful delivery of London’s Elizabeth line. Elizabeth line or Crossrail is a railway line project that was inauinaugurated2009 in London that is expected to significantly improve public transportation in London by increasing capacity and reducing journey times across the city. The Elizabeth line constitutes 10 new stations in central London and 40 stations in total, serving some of the city's busiest areas. The project was expected to carry over 200 million passengers per year, reducing journey times and relieving pressure on existing rail and underground services. The project is one of the large scale infrastructure projects and is set to transform the transport network in London and the surrounding areas (Wright, Palczynski & ten Have 2017).
