ASSESSMENT TASK 3: DESCRIPTION 

For this assessment, you are asked to select an issue in one of the three topics provided below and propose a remedial initiative for it. You will deliver this as a narrated presentation in PowerPoint. Your proposal must be based on cognitive science research. These involve cognitive theories and principles presented in the subject such as levels of processing, encoding specificity, skill transfer, Baddeley’s Working Memory, language parsing and many others. 

You will not be assessed on the articulation of the current knowledge of the problem but on your application of cognitive theories and principles in developing a proposal for a possible solution. Therefore, feedback from Assignment 2A/B will not be essential to your success in Assignment 3. 

TOPICS 

Topic 1 – Indigenous memory and language 

Tasks 

To either propose a new initiative or an improvement of an existing solution such as a current program in preserving or revitalising the language of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people. Justify your solution by applying the cognitive theories and principles you learned in this subject. The focus should be on the cognitive psychology basis for your initiative, however, the proposal must consider the cultural safety of your program. 

Topic 2 - Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) 

Tasks 

To either propose a new initiative or an improvement of an existing solution such as a current program which aids the development of children suffering from FASD, justifying the solution by applying the cognitive theories and principles you learned in this subject. 

Topic 3 - Our ageing population: COVID 19 the global health concern of the century 

Tasks 

To either propose a new initiative or an improvement of an existing solution such as a current program using technologies (current and hypothetical) to minimise the effect on the cognitive decline during quarantine and social distancing periods. Justify your solution by applying the cognitive theories and principles you learned in this subject. 

Report requirements 

Your submission must meet the following requirements: 

1. Using PowerPoint: a. Present your narration for a maximum of 3 minutes. Presentation beyond the three-minute limit will not be assessed. 

b. Create a slide set to accompany the narration. Three content (narrative based) slides and a cover slide are recommended for this length of the presentation. An additional slide for references is required. The reference slide will not be presented during the timed narration. 

c. Include graphics/images as appropriate. Ensure you comply with copyright requirements. 

d. Adhere to APA 7th edition referencing 

e. You will be submitting two files. 1) A presentation in Powerpoint (.ppt rather than .pptx or .pps format only) to ensure compatibility across different marker’s computer setups, and 2) a narrated powerpoint which is a .wmv file.
