Goals and Objectives: 
The primary purpose of this project is to gain a fundamental understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM) and necessary skills of modeling architectural and structural systems. The project will also explore the relationships that exist between architectural,  structural and spatial systems, and how BIM can be used to reinforce these concepts. 

Phases & Process:  
Phase 1. Research –Working on your own (this is an individual project), located at least 3 existing buildings - either residential or small  commercial buildings - that have the following characteristics: 
1. Two or more stories 
2. At least one multi-story space

Phase 2. Digital Modeling-1 sing Autodesk Revit construct a model that represents the basic structural ideas of the building selected from Phase 1.  The model has not to be a replica representation of the original building, but rather a proportional model that fairly  represents the building.  
Create a number of 3D rendering views to show various details of the structural systems and save them to your project. 

Phase 3. Digital Modeling-2 
This phase of the project will focus on modeling all architectural elements and site features of the building chosen. Using  Autodesk Revit, add to the model in phase 2 all not-structural elements such as interior and exterior walls, curtain walls,  doors, windows, rooms, façade features, entrances, furniture, along with some basic site features.  

• Create a number of 3D rendering views to show various exterior and interior details of the building and site, and save them to your project. 
• Create sheets for building plans, elevations, and sections. Include dimensions of each plan and sections as well as labels for spaces.

Phase 4. Final Presentation -
The results of your research should be presented using your Revit model and posters that explain in pictures and text each  phase of your model. Try to document your work thoroughly and clearly convey your architectural ideas as though you  were submitting these results to a blind-review jury in order to win the commission of designing the building for a client.  This is standard practice in architecture, so this exercise will familiarize you with all that goes into what you usually only  see in Architectural Record and Architecture magazines’ award issues. This is also good practice for conveying your ideas  about a project for your D6, D8 or Grad studio. 

Upload your posters and Revit file to the Canvas website. The final grade for the project will be based on the depth and  quality of the investigation as well as the quality of the BIM model and the final posters.
