Title: You need an appropriate descriptive title of your actual experiment. A simplistic generic title such as: Immunoprecipitation practical write-up’ is unlikely to gain full marks.

Introduction with Aims: You will need to introduce immunoprecipitation- what it is and why it is an important technique etc. You should talk about why antibodies are useful in experimental techniques and briefly describe the different type of antibodies that are commonly available (see Table 1 in the protocol). You may want to include diagrams that will help you with the descriptive outline of your experiment – if so, make sure they are neatly drawn, labelled and properly cited. The last paragraph of the introduction should outline your aims- what are you trying to do? What are you hoping to find out?

Methods: Outline what you actually did in enough detail that someone else could repeat it. Please do not copy the protocol word for word, this needs to be written in the style of a scientific paper. Outline the reagents used, the final concentrations used in the experiment and any other important details such as how you incubated your sample, prepared any reagents etc

Results: The results should be presented in an appropriate form such as a table and labelled appropriately. If you have images of the results, make sure they are clearly labelled with a figure legend and cited in the text. Remember to also describe your results but do not interpret them (interpretation should be done in the ‘Discussion’ section.

Discussion: What do your results mean? What are the differences (if any) between the different samples? What controls did you use and what can they tell you about whether the experiment worked or not? Interpret your results. What conclusions can you make from your results? Relate it back to your aims in the introduction. What could you do in the future if you were to repeat the experiment to improve it? 20 marks

Conclusion: One paragraph summarising the main findings from your experiment, commenting on the technique, what you found out and any other main findings.

References: References should be cited as appropriate. In the text references should be written as e.g “(Jones at el 2019)” or numbered [1] and a full citation listed at the end using an appropriate referencing system such as Harvard, writing the references out in full, listed numerically if using the numbering system [1[ etc.
