Context
In the last two decades the world’s consumption of information has drastically changed. Books and scientific journals that were once printed and housed in University libraries, are now distributed wholly online. With the emergence of social media platforms we tend to first obtain news and information in little chunks, rather than big bodies of text. This phenomena has similarly changed how scientists find new research articles that are relevant to their discipline. The publishing of scientific research is a billion-dollar global business. Publishers essentially obtain their income from scientists reading the articles published in their journals. This market competition, as well as the changing media landscape, has resulted in the emergence of graphical abstracts.
A graphical abstract is a single and concise visual representation of the research article. It is a summary of the key findings of the paper and is scientifically accurate. The ultimate aim of the graphical abstract is to help readers (i.e. other scientists) quickly identify which papers are relevant to their research interests. Your task here is to create a graphical abstract for one of the provided research articles. Overall, this assessment task will provide you with an opportunity to develop your comprehension of metabolic biochemistry, to refine your learning and research skills, and also to dust off your creative brains!
