You are required to document your observation of three children and their behavior in a range of situations and contexts over a period of time. You have been provided an observation tool to help critically analyse the behavior of these children. You are required to conduct 4 observations per child, giving you a total of 12 observations.

Assessment procedure

You will be provided a briefing on the assessment and the opportunity to seek clarification on the conduct of the assessment. You may seek clarification at any point in time during the assessment task. If you feel you need more time to complete the assessment, you must negotiate the time needed with the assessor. Following the assessment, your responses are to be assessed and marked as appropriate. If you have provided incorrect responses, you will be engaged in a one on one discussion to moderate your knowledge verbally. The assessor must have confidence that you hold the required knowledge. The assessor should record their observations about your demonstrated knowledge and must retain the completed written assessment as evidence of the completed assessment activity.

Assessment task-2

You are required to create, implement and measure the effectiveness of a Behaviour Management Plan for one of the children you observed in assessment task 1. There are 3 parts to this assessment:

1. Create the Behaviour Management Plan. You have been provided with a Behaviour Management Plan template to complete and hand to your assessor. Your plan must include consultation from colleagues and the family of the child and must address relevant National Quality Standards.
2. Implement the plan. You are required to implement the strategies identified in your behaviour management plan
3. Documenting via a written report of no more than 1500 words, your implementation of the plan. In particular, addressing:

• Identify what National Quality Standards the Behaviour Management Plan addressed.
• Discuss how you established a baseline for the new or modified behaviour and how you ensured the behaviour was age appropriate for the child’s stage of development.
• Discuss how the expectation of the new or modified behaviour was communicated to the child, family, colleagues and other relevant parties.
• Discuss how you reviewed your own stance and values on appropriate and inappropriate behaviours. Did this influence your plan?
• Discuss how you worked with colleagues and the family to successfully implement this plan. Did any of the following factors play a part in the Behaviour Management Plan? Why/Why Not? –
  • Family styles of discipline
  • Family beliefs about behaviour
  • Different cultures and social groups
  • Recent events,
  • Child’s history,
  • Actions of others, or
  • Developmental or emotional reasons
• Discuss how you used relationship based strategies to help the child learn about behaviour
• Discuss the overall effectiveness of the plan any changes that occurred over the implementation phase and explain why.

Assessment task-3

You are required to plan, develop, implement and measure the effectiveness of two Inclusion support plans to support children’s agency. One plan must be for a child with special needs. There are 3 parts to this assessment:

1. Create the Inclusion Support Plans. You have been provided with an Inclusion Support Plan template to complete and hand to your assessor. Both your plans must include consultation from colleagues and the family of the child.
2. Implement the plans. You are required to implement the strategies identified in your Inclusion Support Plans
3. Documenting via a written report of no more than 2000 words, your implementation of both plans. In particular, addressing:

• The overall effectiveness of the plan.
• How you involved children in the decision making and planning.
• Discuss the environments and opportunities you planned and how they related to the child’s interest.
• Discuss the strategies and techniques you used to engage the children in experiences and developmentally appropriate curriculum.
• Discuss the additional resources or sources of information you needed to assist in developing and adapting curriculum to meet the child’s special needs.
• How you worked with colleagues and the family to successfully implement this plan.
• Any changes that occurred to the plan over the implementation phase and why.

Assessment task-4

You are required to document in a reflective diary your interactions and positive relationships with children. Your Diary should be approximately 2500 words and should include:

1. Reflect on applying limits and guidelines for behaviour. What worked and what didn’t work? Analyse your experiences from a range of contexts you provided in the care service
2. Reflect on the implementation of the Behavioural Management Plan. Discuss how you involved families and other care providers in strategies to rectify/modify children’s behaviour
3. Reflect on a number of occasions of where you set up learning environments for children and how you ensured their interests were reflected in the curriculum. How did you balance the children’s needs amongst the group?
4. Reflect how you provided opportunities to stimulate learning and development. Describe the strategies and techniques you used to engage children. How did you ensure that you were being inclusion of all children?
5. Identify the relevant National Quality Standards and the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of the Child that guided your inclusion and support plans
6. Identify the relevant legislation, workplace policies and procedures that guided your inclusion and support plans
7. Reflect on how you promote and demonstrate inclusion
8. Reflect on and discuss how you would plan to include and support children with:

• • behavioural or psychological disorders

  • family circumstances and needs

  • physical, sensory or developmental disability
  • strategies that encourage participation
