Task:

1.0 Introduction
Students will form groups of four and undertake the following role play:
You are a team of consultants engaged by an organization based in Tasmania to review a specific business process and provide suggestions for improvements that will incorporate information systems technology.
You are required to submit a report detailing your review of the business process and also make an oral presentation to the key stakeholders of the company.
2.0 Group formation
Students can already begin forming their groups when the semester starts. If students find difficulty in forming groups, they are encouraged to firstly, post on the MyLO page in the discussion forum: Seeking grouping members. Once groups have been formed, the group must inform their tutor either via email or in the workshop.
 

It is important to form groups as soon as possible as group work activities relating to Assignment 1 will begin from the first workshop. Students have till the 8th of March to form a group. Any students who have not been included in any group by the 8th of March will be allocated to a group by the teaching team.
 

3.0 Organization and Business Process Selection
Groups must select an organization that is based in Tasmania and then decide on a particular business process they intend to use in the case study. Students can choose a business process based on their own experience or independent research. For instance, students can choose an organization that they have worked in, an organization that they have interacted with as a customer or they could interview someone from an organization regarding a particular business process. No two groups can have the same organization and business process. Groups can choose the same organization but not the same business process. Once a group has chosen an organization and a business process that group must inform their tutor via email or in the workshop as soon as possible. We will work on a first-come first-serve basis. Students are encouraged to discuss their organization and business process with their tutor.
 

4.0 Requirements
Students will be assessed based on the following:
a.) Written report
b.) Oral presentation
4.1 Written report
The written report must contain the following:
i.) Cover page with the details of all the group members

ii.) Brief introduction
Introduce organization and the business process that will be analysed.
Write the introduction as if your group are consultants engaged by the organization to review, analyse and provide suggestions of improvement to the organization. Discuss possible reasons why the business process needs to be reviewed and why changing this business process is necessary for the organization.
iii.) BPMN of the existing business process
Use a software tool to model the existing business processing using Business Process Modelling and Annotation.
