Aim:
The aim is for students to interpret and communicate financial data. Students will use data to prepare rooms department and food and beverage (F&B) performance metrics and operational recommendations for `The Holmesglen Hotel’ in Melbourne.

Task details:
There are 2 parts to this assessment task
Part A Group Task
I. Undertake some financial analysis of the data using excel, including key performance metrics (KPI’s), horizontal and vertical analysis (e.g., budget v actual & expenses as a % of rev), and any other analysis that you believe is helpful to understanding comparative performance of the hotel. In the operational data you are provided with month to data (MTD) information for the final month of Quarter 1 (September) this will enable you to forecast if the hotel will achieve its budget aims (look at your KPI’s are they trending in the correct direction?)

II. Communicate that financial and operational analysis by creating a performance dashboard (using Excel) that provides a snap shot of the hotel and key department performance for the Quarter to date. This can include visuals such as tables, graphs, or other images. You will present this live at the BHM Expo where you will each present an oral review of one of the graphs you have created including recommendations to improve performance. You will also answer curious questions about your dashboard from the audience.

Part B Individual Reflection (2 parts)
III. You are to prepare a review of one of the graphs/charts you created for your department. This should be in the OSEM format. Ensure you include an explanation of what this data means for the hotel and a recommendation to improve financial performance (related to the graph /chart discussed)

IV. You are to complete a peer review on yourself and your team mates (available on Brightspace). This (along with peer reviews and teacher assessment) will be considered when providing individual team work scores for this task
