Assignment Task

The practical assessment will assess course learning outcomes 1, 3, 4, 5 and 6. Your practical assessment will consist of two parts Part A (semen analysis) and Part B (familial hypercholesterolaemia practical). Part A is worth marks and Part B is worth marks. Therefore, the total mark for this assessment is marks and is worth  of your overall grade for this course. This assessment is a competency-based requirement, which requires each student to score no less than 15/30 (i.e. 50% or more) to pass the assessment piece satisfactorily. You must attempt and submit all assessment items in order to pass the course. Additionally, you must pass this practical assessment in order to pass the course.

The assignment needs to be in your own words. Failure to write in your own words may result in academic penalty. Please note that the usual expectations regarding academic integrity apply to this assessment. This is an individual assignment and should not be completed as group work. Be sure to act ethically and honestly in the completion of this assignment, using your own words and not copying from other students, class notes, or resources, and protecting your work from being copied or misused by others. Assessments will be submitted through Turnitin and any work that does not meet these guidelines will be referred for Academic Integrity review and may receive a score of zero

PART

A. Semen analysis (motility) of four (4) different cases

You will be provided with a detailed PowerPoint presentation during a workshop during residential school. The workshop will also involve an opportunity to practice your skills with your course examiner. No pre-laboratory work is required for this workshop. More details regarding this assessment piece will be provided during the workshop.

You will also be provided some practice cases and results on StudyDesk that you can work through in your own time to refine your skills prior to the submission of this assessment piece. The time taken to practice this skill replaces the time it would typically take to conduct research for an essay or laboratory report and then subsequently compile a report. You will gain competence with consistent practice.

You will be graded on the progressive motility results you obtained as outlined in the marking criteria. You will also be graded on correctly identifying whether each case is clinically significant or not and a brief reason as to why based on the results you provide for each case (criteria of clinical significance will be provided to you during the workshop and is outlined in the corresponding PowerPoint presentation). Please refer to specific marking guide / scheme to determine allocation of marks.

B. Familial hypercholesterolaemia testing
