Assessment 1

Detail This assessment includes invigilated quiz that will assess your ability to understand theoretical materials and your knowledge of key content areas. The quiz will be either multiple choice questions or short questions which are relevant to the lectures of lecture materials. For successful completion of the quiz, you are required to study the material provided (lecture slides, tutorials, and reading materials) and engage in the unit’s activities. The prescribed textbook is the main reference along with the recommended reading materials.

Assessment 2 Detail

Practical exercises assess students’ ability to apply theoretical learning to practical, realworld situations on a weekly basis. The practical exercises will improve student’s ability to practice cloud computing using different cloud platforms specified in the weekly workshop activities.

Students will be required to complete the practical exercises during the workshop and therefore, attendance is required as part of this assessment. Students will not be assessed on work that not produced in workshop so that attendance is required as part of this assessment. Students are required to submit the work that they have completed during the workshop session only. The details of the lab work and requirements are provided on the online learning system.

Task

Answer each of the questions below:

• Describe the difference between a locally hosted school (ie. in an enterprise data centre) and a school service provided using a SaaS provider. What are the critical points, other than cost, that an enterprise would need to consider in choosing to migrate from a locally hosted service to an SaaS service? Your description should take no more than two to 3 pages.
• Describe the difference between locally hosted university infrastructure (ie. in an enterprise data centre) and a university infrastructure provided using an IaaS provider. What are the critical points, other than cost, that an enterprise would need to consider in choosing to migrate from local hosted infrastructure to an IaaS service provider? Your description should take no more than two to 3 pages.
• ECA, wants to investigate moving two of its educational arms to a servicebased model where many of its services would be supplied to its clients as a service, in addition to its plans to move to an IaaS model. There are several infrastructure models that could possibly be used to achieve this. Some of these models are:
  • Local hosted infrastructure and applications.
  • Local hosted infrastructure with some SaaS applications.
  • Hybrid infrastructure (some locally hosted infrastructure with some IaaS) and applications.
  • Hybrid infrastructure and applications with some SaaS applications.
  • Full IaaS model with some with SaaS apps.
  • Full SaaS model.

You are required to choose an infrastructure model that you think will achieve the ECA Roadmap;

Describe the benefits and drawbacks, excluding costs, of your chosen infrastructure model. Your description should take no more than two to 3 pages.

In this task, you must work as a group to test your ability of launching, resizing, managing, and monitoring an Amazon EC2 instance

Required Tasks

1. Launch a web server instance with termination protection enabled 

2. Monitor Your EC2 instance

3. Modify the security group that your web server is using to allow HTTP access

4. Resize your Amazon EC2 instance to scale   

5. Explore EC2 limits

6. Test termination protection 

7. Terminate your EC2 instance
