Assignment Task: BIT121 Learning Outcomes This assessment assesses the following Subject Learning Outcomes (SLO): a. identify fundamental concepts of communication systems b. describe the basic structures of computer, data and telecommunication networks c. compare the difference between analogue and digital communications and their uses d. describe appropriate network standards for a small to medium sized enterprise telecommunication solution. Purposes This assessment allows you to demonstrate your ability to describe computer systems and telecommunication networks including concepts of networks, protocols, services and security aspects. You will need to investigate and choose the appropriate network protocol, procedures and tools at your disposal to high-level design and analyze small and medium-size networks and users. You will be assessed on your ability to collect network information based on the real-world scenario described below, analyze the gathered information and propose feasible solutions with appropriate justification given for the type of network and services. Instructions Consider the requirements allocated to you as in Appendix A and propose a solution for a SME (small medium enterprise) company (less than 100 employees). You need to create a company and appropriate businesses based on the type of network and services given by the lecturer. Part A (10%) BIT121: Network Communications Concepts Assignment Page 2 In addition to the development of a written report, you will need to deliver an oral presentation discussing your report. Your presentation should introduce your scenario, and describe the SME network solutions that you have proposed or identified. Your oral presentation must last between seven and nine minutes in duration. You will present to your peers using a slide pack created by you to guide and engage your audience. The slide pack will contain a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 slides excluding cover and reference pages. Part B (30%) This part of the report builds on Part B by proposing an SME network. You will need to consider: 1. Design and propose a network solution for SME users including End to end scenarios as per the requirements in Appendix A 2. Contents must include the headings and contents below: o Cover page: Title of report, submission date, your name and student number o Introduction: Background information including an overview of the network and solutions and the aims of your design. Include a company profile and businesses. o Requirements: Discuss what the solution requires to deliver which services and capacity o Solution Design ? Network Topologies ? Solution Description ? Services and Applications ? Interfaces and Technologies o Analysis and Evaluation: Assess the solution with how the requirements have been met with critical evaluation o Conclusion: A summary of your report, discussing the importance of the proposed solution. o Citation and References: A list of any information you have paraphrased and drawn on throughout the report including proper citation according to the template used. 3. Refer to the sample document below for network design, and consider how to implement an SME service onto the network. This is an example only and any part of them should not be copied in your report.
