ASSESSMENT SUBMISSION

Assessments 1, 2 and 3 are to be completed or submitted via the Moodle subject site.
As per the Melbourne Polytechnic Assessment, Credit and Moderation (HE) Policy, if you require an extension a request must be submitted using the Higher Education Request for Assessment Extension form or using the Application for Special Consideration form (available on the Higher Education & Policies page of the Student Portal) along with evidence to support the request. Requests must be made prior to the due date. Assessment items that are submitted after the due date without an approved request for extension and/or special consideration will be penalised at the rate of 5% off the mark awarded per day for a total of 10 working days. If the assessment item is received after 10 working days past the submission date, the item will not be marked and will attract a fail grade. For further information refer to the Assessment Credit & Moderation (HE) Policy (available on the Melbourne Polytechnic website).
If you are having difficulties with an assessment, including submitting via the Moodle subject site or Turnitin, please contact your lecturer as soon as possible.

Subject Evaluation Questionnaire

SUBJECT EVALUATION QUESTIONNAIRE RESULTS
Melbourne Polytechnic is committed to the principle of continuous improvement, and your feedback and opinions will assist Melbourne Polytechnic in providing the best possible teaching and learning experience.

At the end of the semester, you will be asked to complete a Subject Evaluation Questionnaire (SEQ). The surveys are voluntary and completely anonymous, but we strongly encourage you to take the opportunity to tell us about your learning experiences in this subject.

All feedback is valued and taken seriously. It helps us to improve the learning experience for future students.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  1. Why do I need to do the SEQ?
By doing the SEQ, students let the Lecturer/Tutor know their thoughts about how the subject is being taught such as the pace of teaching, difficulties in understanding, the need for more examples, etc.

  2. What are the benefits of the SEQ?
The SEQ captures all students’ feedback so that all subjects in the HE Directorate are continually reviewed and updated to meet the needs of students in general. With each semester, improvements can be made and aligned to meet students’ expectations.

  3. Is my feedback anonymous?
Yes, all students’ feedback is anonymous. All students are given an option to have their identity made known in the SEQ system if they wish. All feedback is accepted with an open mind in Melbourne Polytechnic.

  4. How will doing the SEQ benefit me?
By doing the SEQ, the Lecturer/Tutor is able to know students’ concerns about a subject. Improvements and refinement are made in response to their feedback. Students who give feedback via SEQ about their subjects will benefit future students of this same subject, just as you have benefitted from changes to the subject following feedback from past students.

STUDENT ASSESSMENT – SUBMISSION

All assignments must be submitted via this subject’s Moodle site. You are encouraged – and may be required – to use Turnitin check for authenticity and originality prior to submission of your written assignments.

SUBMISSION OF LATE ASSIGNMENTS

Assessment items that are submitted after the due date without an approved request for extension will be penalised at the rate of 5% of the mark awarded per day for a total of ten working days. If the assessment item is received after this time or not submitted, the item will not be marked and attract a fail grade.
The Assessment Extension (HE) Request Form is available through the Policies and Procedures webpage or your Course Administration Office.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATION

If you feel your work, including assessments at any time during the academic year is being affected to a significant degree by illness, loss/bereavement, or hardship/trauma you may be eligible for special consideration.
Students who wish to apply for special consideration are advised to discuss the circumstances with the Head of Program in the first instance. All requests for special consideration must be submitted using the Special Consideration (HE) and Special Consideration Medical Impact (HE) Statement forms. All applications for Special Consideration must be accompanied by documentation that verifies the circumstances cited by the applicant and that these are eligible grounds for the application.
Application for Special Consideration can be made in accordance with the special consideration provisions of the Assessment, Credit and Moderation (HE) Policy.

Brief Summary of Assessment Requirements

The assessment requires students to submit three assessment tasks (Assessments 1, 2, and 3) via the Moodle subject site of Melbourne Polytechnic.
Students are expected to complete their work in alignment with the Melbourne Polytechnic Assessment, Credit and Moderation (HE) Policy. Key requirements include:

  • Timely submission of all assessments before the due date.

  • Use of Turnitin for authenticity and originality checks.

  • Submission of approved requests for extensions or special consideration prior to the due date in cases of illness, bereavement, or other hardships.

  • Understanding that late submissions without approval will incur a penalty of 5% per working day for up to 10 working days.

  • After 10 working days late, the assessment will not be marked and will receive a fail grade.

The prescribed text and recommended readings were provided as learning resources to support students in completing their assignments successfully.

Assessment Approach by the Academic Mentor – Step-by-Step Process

Step 1 – Understanding the Assessment Requirements

The academic mentor began by explaining the full assessment submission guidelines, ensuring the student clearly understood:

  • How and where to submit the assessments.

  • The importance of meeting deadlines.

  • How to use Turnitin for originality checks.

  • The process of applying for an extension or special consideration if necessary.

This ensured the student was aware of all policies and the penalties for non-compliance.

Step 2 – Organising Learning Resources

The mentor directed the student to:

  • Study the prescribed text: West, JT & Andres, J. 2025. Network + guide to networks 10th Ed, Cengage.

  • Refer to recommended readings from Comer and Hummel for additional context and knowledge about network design fundamentals.

  • Access online resources such as FortiOS Best Practices.

This step equipped the student with the necessary theoretical background to approach the assessment confidently.

Step 3 – Planning the Work

The academic mentor guided the student to carefully read the assessment tasks and design a work plan, focusing on:

  • Understanding each assessment requirement clearly.

  • Allocating appropriate time to research, draft, and revise before the submission deadline.

  • Identifying where to find additional resources if needed.

This structured planning helped the student approach the tasks in an organised way.

Step 4 – Drafting and Draft Review

The student drafted the assessments step by step under the mentor’s supervision, with the following focus:

  • Ensuring alignment with the correct academic format and referencing standards.

  • Developing coherent, accurate, and well-researched responses for each assessment.

  • Regularly consulting the Turnitin system to check for originality.

The academic mentor reviewed the drafts in stages, providing constructive feedback on areas such as content clarity, technical accuracy, and language structure.

Step 5 – Finalising and Submitting the Assessment

Once the student incorporated the feedback:

  • The final versions were reviewed again to ensure no errors remained.

  • The mentor reminded the student to complete the assessment declaration before submitting.

  • Submission was completed via the Moodle platform before the due date.

Outcome Achieved

The student successfully submitted all three assessments within the guidelines:

  • Original and plagiarism-free documents.

  • Properly referenced and structured according to academic requirements.

  • Submitted on time with full compliance to the policy.

As a result, the student avoided penalties and fulfilled the academic integrity standards of Melbourne Polytechnic.
