Assignment Task

1. Research, critical analysis and reflection on the contractual structures and contracts relevant to different types of construction projects. Please see marking rubric below, approximately 4-5 pages). The Australian Standards AS 4000-1997 General Conditions of Contract includes important clauses detailing obligations and responsibilities for the contracting parties, such as:

• Insurance of the Works
• Works under Contract (WUC)
• Termination

Your tasks

For each of the three contract clauses, prepare a one-page critical analysis on the legal obligations and responsibilities. Include in the text your reflections on what you would look for in the contract administration for a construction project. Provide your research of academic and industry resources as in-text references and prepare an alphabetical bibliography at the end of this section.

2. Analysis of project specific situations and application of relevant Australian standards form of contracts and clauses (10 % = 10 available marks, please see marking rubric below, approx. 3 pages). Your construction business has been contacted by a potential new client looking for a construction business to design and build a 4-storey sustainable office building that will incorporate and contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3, 9, 11 and 12 or others).

Your task

Identify five Australian Standards General Condition of Contract Clauses, (not those covered in Part 1) and analyse for each how specific SDG targets and indicators could be linked to these contract clauses. Discuss in your words how the contract administration of SDGs linked to AS4000 based contract can support SDG integration.

3. Professional reflection on learning in Week 1 to 4 , As part of your professional development, you are preparing your portfolio for a job application as contract administrator. Reflect on professional and ethical skills, attributes and attitudes in construction contract administration. Prepare one page text in first-person voice writing for the job criteria: 'My current abilities to support the construction management team in relation to Australian Standards AS 4000-1997 General Conditions of Contract'.
