Synopsis:

According to some reports, 5th Generation mobile network technology (5G) is likely to arrive in New Zealand either toward the end of 2019 or sometime 2020. Despite its promise of faster internet speeds and a readymade platform for driverless cars and virtual reality, the media have reported some aspects of 5G that have generated public concern.

Your job is to first identify an industry that is likely to benefit from adopting 5G technology, for example, the hospitality, tourism, I.T., telecommunications, medical or retail industry.

1. Write a literature review which:

• Describes your chosen industry and its background in an NZ context

• Portrays areas in which 5G may potentially influence the industry you’ve chosen

• Discusses 5G’s potential positive, negative and disruptive impact on businesses the industry

• Details what the literature is saying about 5G’s adoption in other countries

• Describes the reasons behind the public’s acceptance and reluctance to 5G technology

2. After completing your literature review, write your research proposal (300 words). This section should include:

• Your topic

• Conceptual question

• It’s conceptual significance

• Three potential practical applications

• A statement that encapsulates the research problem your research will solve.

• Your hypotheses/ propositions - What do you think the results will show you? Provide statements which your research will prove/disprove.

3. Methodology

The methodology is an explanation and justification for the method you intend to use, and the research lens you believe best suits answering your research problem. In general, explain whether you will approach this from a positivist or relativist perspective, whether you will seek qualitative or quantitative data, what approach you will be using (e.g. Experiment/ case study/cross-sectional/ longitudinal/ action research), and justify this. • How do you intend to analyse the data collected? What problem-solving model(s) will you use?

4. Develop a questionnaire of around 10 to 15 questions which accurately reflects your research methodology. For instance, if quantitative, develop a survey-type questionnaire; if qualitative, develop an interview-type questionnaire.
