Purpose of the assessment (with ULO Mapping)
In this assignment students have to demonstrate theoretical as well as practical knowledge and skills acquired from lecture and laboratory classes. Students will be able to complete the following ULOs:
a. Discuss the main security issues and emerging trends of information security
b. Identify common emerging threats, attacks, mitigation and countermeasures in networked information systems
c. Explain the major methodologies for secure networks and the threats they address
d. Identify and report network threats, select and implement appropriate countermeasures for network security
Assignment Description
In this assignment students have to demonstrate theoretical as well as practical knowledge and skills acquired from lecture and laboratory classes. The assignment consists of two parts. Description of each task is given in following sections.
A. Cloud Computing
Cloud computing is a pay-per-use computing model in which customers pay only for the computing resources they used. The cloud computing is to enable a convenient, on demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers, storage, applications, and services) that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provide interactions. Perform the following tasks based on your research and analysis
1. Highlight the importance of cloud computing in today’s world. Explain four cloud service models.
2. Report risks, threats, & vulnerabilities in migrating to the Cloud for an organisation.
3. Discuss at least one security protection on cloud computing used by an organisation.
4. Compare Microsoft Azure with Amazon Web Services (AWS). Create a table that lists at least five options. Include the advantages and disadvantages of each. Which would you recommend? Why?
5. Would you recommend the cloud computing for your school or place of work? Justify your recommendation.
B. Compare Protocol Analysers
A protocol analyser captures packets to decode and analyse their contents. Network traffic can be viewed by a stand-alone protocol analyser device or a computer that runs protocol analyser software.
1. Analyse and discuss the importance of protocol analysers from an enterprise point of view.
2. Research any two protocol analysers (such as Wireshark, Colasoft Capsa, and Microsoft message Analyser) and compare their features.
