Case Study- Paediatric nursing interventions and the hospitalised child Joel, an 8-year-old boy diagnosed with neuroblastoma, has been hospitalised several times for treatment, and due to complications from the condition. He was admitted last night to the paediatric oncology unit, presenting with febrile neutropenia. This is the handover you received for your patient, Joel, from the RN on the morning shift:  I-Joel is 8, weighs 16kg, allergic to Emla cream and Tegaderm.  SHe was admitted overnight through ED. Presented with a temperature of 39.5 degrees, poor appetite, and feeling generally unwell. He is currently being investigated for febrile neutropenia. We have started IV antibiotics just in case.  B-Diagnosed with neuroblastoma 2 months ago. He last had chemotherapy one week ago. His parents have been taking turns staying with him in hospital so that they can both work.  A-Joel is currently clinically stable. He has not had any further fevers since admission last night. He is on Piperacillin-tazobactam IV 6 hourly, and naso-gastric feeds at meal times. He is feeling much  better today, and playing in the play-room at the moment.  R- 4 hourly vital signs with PRN temperature checks, administer IV antibiotics 6 hourly, NG feeds TDS. Joel also gets really anxious whenever anyone looks at his port. He hates having anything IV!  His IV antibiotics are due now.  You prepare the IV antibiotics and find Joel, who is playing a board-game with his brother, sister, and several other children in the playroom. You enter the playroom and say “Joel, I need to give you your IV antibiotics. I can see that you are playing a game, so I’ll just do it while you play. It will just take a minute.” The playroom is usually off limits for procedures, but as Joel’s nurse, you are aware that IV antibiotics must be administered on time.  In 2000 words, and based on the case study and handover provided above, answer the following questions, presented in essay format.
