Background
Andersen Ltd is a smart phone manufacturing company. During the inventory stocktake, a huge discrepancy was found. It is suspected that three fraudulent managers colluded together and sold the company’s products for cash.
Goal
Fraudulent Managers: Hide the fraud by kicking out all the others. Innocent Employees (Others): Find out who are the three Fraudulent Managers.
Learning Objectives
“For some time, regulators have referred to a lack of professional scepticism among auditors as a major issue in audit quality. Regulators argue that, were auditors to be more sceptical, more misstatements in financial statements would be uncovered through the audit process. Despite increased awareness among auditors of the importance of professional scepticism in ensuring audit quality, regulators continue to refer to a lack of professional scepticism in their oversight reports.” (ACCA, 2017 p. 5).
In this assignment, you will practice interpersonal skills and cultivate a sense of scepticism by playing a board game. In addition, you will learn some research on this area and reflect on your experience during the board game. Lastly, you will watch the game by another group and reflect on your observations.
Tasks
Requirement A: Playing and recording the game (Compulsory)
(1) Please play and record the board game below (in English). The game requires 9 people in total (1 moderator and 8 players). You can play the game with any students and friends (no matter whether they are enrolled in this unit or not). Students who have participated in a game can also participate in another game if you cannot find enough players and need their help. Group registration is not required. You can use Zoom or any other software to record the board game.
(2) Please follow the instruction to edit and remove some parts from the recorded video. Because other students will watch your video and guess who are the fraudulent managers, it is important to remove the parts that fraudulent managers or other roles can be identified from the recorded video.
(3) Please submit your edited video via Moodle by 11:55 pm, Thursday, 31 March 2022 (Melbourne time). If group members also enrol in this unit, each student needs to submit a video, and the video can be the same. Failing to participate in a game and submit a video will lead to a deduction of 5 marks from the final marks of this assignment. Moderator is considered playing the game, so moderator doesn’t need to play the game again and can submit the same video. In addition to the video, please write down each player’s role in a WORD or PDF document and upload to the Moodle.
Requirement B: Research and reflections
(1) Please read at least two of the research articles listed below and conduct a summary.
(2) Reflect on your role, observations, and board game experience and connect to the research articles.
(3) Watch one board game video by another group, which will be available on Moodle. After students submit their board game videos, Chief Examiner will upload the board game videos on Moodle as soon as possible. Based on your observations, board game experience and the research articles, guess who are fraudulent managers and provide your justifications. Your marks are NOT related to whether your guess is correct or not. Please do not ask the group to provide answers. You should not know their roles when doing this requirement.
