Task 1 (Graphing and t-tests)

  1. Construct separate boxplots for the amount wagered through each of the gambling channels (i.e. one for Traditional and one for Online). What can you say about the distributional features shown in the graphical representations (central location, spread and skewness) of each of the boxplots?

Traditional: {10, 115, 115, 120, 120, 125, 155, 180, 210, 240}

Q1) 115, Q2) (120-125)/2= 122.5, Q3) 180 mean = 139

IQR = Q3-Q1 = 180-115=65

Max=240

Min=10

  1. Test whether the average amount wagered through each of the gambling channels is different at a 5% level of significance.

  2. Construct a graph of the proportion of male and female gamblers. What can you say about the proportion of male and female gamblers in the survey?

  3. For each of the gambling channels, test whether the average amount wagered by males and females is different at a 5% level of significance.

  4. Construct a scatter plot of each gambling channel against Age and Income (you’ll need four scatter plots in total). With the aid of a trendline in the scatter plot (right mouse click on a data point in the graph and then select add trendline) briefly comment on what the plots indicate about the relationships in the data.

  5. Report the proportions of gamblers with different education levels. Does this indicate anything about the relation between gambling and education?
