Part 1 (a) Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and groups to participate in consultations and decision making processes • Providing opportunities for employees and stakeholders’ participation in decision making with a variety of communication methods • Empowering employees by involving them in decision making • Particularly decisions that directly impact on operational aspects of the team • Genuine commitment to the concept by both management and employees • Empowerment is unlikely to work if it is perceived by leaders as undermining their power and position in the organisation • Or If employees see it only as the leader ’off-loading’ work
Part 1 (b) Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and contribute to innovation and improvements • Encouraging feedback from employees by: • Listening to suggestions, setting up meetings, formal and information interactions, emails, bulletin boards, face book, twitter, company newsletters and magazines • Actions convey flexibility and adaptability to change • Benchmarking is important as it allows an organisation to evaluate itself against other organisations • Comparisons may be made against organisations in the same industry, or outside the industry sector • Benchmarking allows the organisation to establish performance objectives and plans in order to raise performance levels • Benchmarking provides employees the opportunity to ‘look outside’, an external perspective
Part 1 (c) Describe how a leader can influence, support and provide resources for individuals and achieve their responsibilities and objectives – Resources such as people, technology, raw materials, equipment, machinery and finance – Leaders’ constant awareness of timeframes – Ensuring work units are adequately resourced commences with identifying what resources are needed to achieve the plan outcomes – Gap analysis is used to compare what is needed against what is in place – The leader must then determine how any gaps identified between these two will be resourced – Resourcing is about quantity of resources – Resourcing is about quality of resources
Part 2 Report on how you as a leader would facilitate consultative decision making processes and explain the resulting organisational change processes to the relevant internal and external stakeholders. • Supporting an organisational culture that embraces concepts such as quality, continuous improvement, creativity and innovation, and where change is accepted as normal • Employing individuals that embrace these values • Reinforcing the culture through recognition and reward processes • Ensuring communication and education processes effectively convey the reasons for changes • Providing opportunities for employee input into change decisions, particularly those that significantly impact them personally
