The objective of this assessment will assess your knowledge and performance in performance in using advanced-level critical thinking skills in a workplace context. It includes using methods of analysis, synthesis, and evaluation

This is a project-based assessment that assesses your knowledge and performance of the unit.

This assessment is in 4 parts:

Submission instructions

On completion of this assessment, you will submit it to your Teacher/Assessor for marking. Where possible, submission and upload of all required assessment files should be via the TAFE NSW online learning platform.

This is important that you keep a copy of all electronic and hardcopy assessments submitted to TAFE and complete the assessment declaration when submitting the assessment.

What do I need to do to achieve a satisfactory result?

To achieve a satisfactory result for this assessment, you must answer all the questions correctly.

If a resit is required to achieve a satisfactory result, it will conduct at an agreed time after a suitable revision period.

What do I need to provide?

• TAFE NSW student account username and password. If you do not know     your username and password, contact your campus or service centre on 131601.

What the Teacher/Assessor will provide

Access to this assessment and learning resources, including the student workbook and any supporting documents or links.

Computers, datasheets, reference text, the organizational policy will be the assessment. These may be hard copies or made available online.

You will allow a minimum of six hours to complete this assessment. Students may need additional time for preparation, research, and revision to ensure they have responded to each question satisfactorily.

Assessment feedback, review or appeals

In accordance with the TAFE NSW policy Manage Assessment Appeals, all students have the right to appeal an assessment decision with how the assessment will conduct and the outcome of the assessment. Appeals will complete within 14 working days of the formal notification of the result of the assessment.

If you would like to request a review of your results or any concerns about your results, contact your Teacher/Assessor or Head Teacher. If they are unavailable, contact the Student Administration Officer.

Limitations and solutions

For this part of the assessment, you need to use critical thinking concepts to develop solutions to two workplace limitations/problems. Outline your responses in the table below. Steps to take include:

1.1 Analyse workplace practices and identify two workplace limitations

Summarise two workplace limitations you have identified. Use two different methods to find inefficiencies, limitations, or problems (for example, talk to stakeholders, look at numerical data or ask a set of questions).

Supply Chain Vulnerability

Having a single manufacturing facility in Hong Kong has proven to have considerable challenges resulting in disruptions to the supply chain due to this single point of failure.

This caused limited production capacity with only 500 units of 2000 were produced on time. This further illustrates the limitations and the necessity for a contingency plan.

Scalability Concerns

Current B2B Focus: Although the B2B model has increased revenue and reduced customer service problems, it may have limited market penetration. The shift to a business-to-consumer (B2C) model may result in increased operational expenses and customer assistance challenges.

Briefly summarise relevant legislation and organisational policies and procedures relevant to your process. You need to present your proposal to stakeholders. Meet online in a simulated presentation and record it for submission. Your presentation must include:

• provide an overview of workplace limitations
• present solutions and your analysis
• justify decision-making process
• seek advice and feedback from the stakeholders on your proposal
• take note of the feedback provided by the stakeholders

Your presentation should last between 5 – 7 minutes. During the presentation, you need to demonstrate the following communication skills:

• speaking clearly and concisely
• using non-verbal communication to assist with understanding
• asking questions to identify required information
• responding to questions as required
• use a presenting style and vocabulary to suit the audience and situation
• seek to establish interpersonal connections

This project-based assessment evaluates your ability to apply advanced critical-thinking skills in a workplace context through a four-part submission:

1. Part 1 – Limitations & Solutions: analyse workplace practices, identify two limitations (using two different investigation methods), research solutions, generate and evaluate alternative solutions using numerical data from the case study.

2. Part 2 – Develop a Proposal: pick one limitation from Part 1 and prepare a stakeholder-facing proposal that describes the chosen solution, justifies it, evaluates advantages/disadvantages (SWOT), aligns it with legislation/organisational policy, and documents the decision-making framework used.

3. Part 3 – Presentation: deliver a 5–7 minute recorded presentation to stakeholders summarising the limitation, proposed solutions, decision process, and soliciting feedback; capture stakeholder comments for Part 4.

4. Part 4 – Review: complete a post-performance review with self-reflection, incorporate assessor/stakeholder feedback, identify strengths/weaknesses and professional development areas, and plan future process evaluations.
