Question 1:
Describe what the conscious practice of diversity involves
It is a set of conscious practices that involves understanding and appreciating interdependence of humanity, cultures, and the natural environment; practicing mutual respect for ideas, qualities and experiences that are different from our own; understanding that diversity includes not only ways of being but also ways of knowing; recognising that personal, cultural, and institutionalised discrimination creates and sustains privileges for some while creating and sustaining disadvantages for others.
It an understanding that everyone is unique and recognising our individual differences. These can be along the dimensions of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs, or other ideologies. It is the exploration of these differences in a safe, positive, and fostering environment. It is about understanding each other and moving beyond
simple tolerance to embracing and celebrating the rich dimensions of diversity contained within everyone.

Exit interviews – Find out why employee’s are leaving. What the company can do better which can include questions around diversity for example; Did you feel you received growth opportunities? Did you feel your schedule/assignments let you enjoy work-life balance?
Job descriptions – Review job descriptions to ensure they are not unintentionally bias. Specify the needs of the job rather than how it is achieved. For example; instead of saying “must have valid drivers licence” say “ability to travel and provide own transport”
