Position Details:
A Human Resources Adviser is required for the Human Resources department in the Green Hill campus.
Job reference HA10.
The applicant will report to the HR Manager.
The salary is $76,000 per annum plus superannuation.
Key Functions:
The HR Advisor provides operational and strategic level advice and support to Heads of School, Heads of Department, Heads of Discipline academic and administrational managers.
The HR adviser will play a key role in assisting with further investigation of issues, follow up actions and project work as directed by the HR Manager.
The HR Adviser will manage the implementation and administration of new and existing human resource policies and the development and implementation and review of procedures in line with university and client strategic plans.
Working conditions are as per enterprise agreement.
The purpose of this role is to provide HR advice, information, guidance, and support to a designated client group to ensure that all requirements under the Enterprise Agreements and University policies are met. These include recruitment and selection, performance management, staff development and training, change management, EEO and WHS. A high level of client satisfaction through the effective and coordinated delivery of human resource services is also expected.
Daily Responsibilities:
Act as a key point of contact for client groups and provide advice on a broad range of human resources issues.
Attend to immediate issues, providing timely solutions-focused advice/answers to questions.
Provide support and assistance to Heads, academic and administration leaders and managers by providing timely, accurate and pragmatic. advice/guidance/coaching on HR related matters
Proactive in developing relationships across the client group.
Provide advice to staff members about university policies, procedures, and support services.
Demonstrated efforts to proactively position Human Resources as a client-focused support function.
Ongoing Responsibilities:
1. Assist HR Manager in operating the strategic initiatives of Human Resources and assist in embedding the university’s human resources policies and practices.
Promote and encourage relevant EEO employment programs within relevant client groups.
Understand and address issues affecting the retention and morale in relevant client groups.
Educate and support Heads, academic and admin managers in their application of policies and the management of processes with particular emphasis on probation and confirmation.
Identify ways to improve HR capability.
Coach managers in effective people management principles.
Review and implement induction processes.
Understand and support performance management.
Evaluation of the effectiveness of policies and practices.
Supporting colleagues and sharing knowledge and skills.
Encouraging online HR tools.
Promoting awareness of WH&S responsibilities.
Provide HR managers, academic and admin managers up to date with information on various client groups to assist in HR planning.
2. Contribute to developing and maintaining positive relationships and communications with the HR department.

Key Internal Relationships:

General HR specialists (WH&S, Equal Opportunity unit, Counsellors, etc.) to source specialist advice and information for any initiatives or projects undertaken.
External Relationships:
Universities as needed to exchange or source information.
External suppliers/clients/advertising agencies/legal consultants.
Essential knowledge and skills for position:
Must have Diploma level qualifications in HR or above.
Analytical skills for extracting and analyzing key data and reporting it in a meaningful way;
Excellent time management skills.
High level of motivation, independence, and ability to work on own initiative.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills.
Project management skills.
Good problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients.
Familiar with the Australian employment relations regulatory environment.
Must have recent HR experience.
Knowledge and understanding of industry legislation, awards and enterprise agreements.
Ability to work positively with staff and students from a diverse range of backgrounds is essential.
Understanding of WHS responsibilities.
A continuing commitment to professional development.
