Part A: General instructions to the student
Purpose of assessment
The assessments for this unit have been designed to ensure you are able to competently demonstrate your knowledge and skills for each of the elements and performance criteria as well as the required knowledge and skills for this unit.
Application of the unit
Once competency has been achieved for this unit, you will be able to manage risks in a range of contexts across an organisation or for a specific business unit or area in any industry setting.
This includes the ability to:
1. Establish risk context
2. Identify risks
3. Analyse risks
4. Select and implement treatments
Part B: Assessment tasks
The following pages contain the assessment tasks that will provide you with information and instructions to complete each of the assessments.
You will be provided with a due date for each of the assessment tasks and where required you will submit your
Assessment Tool cover sheet with your assessment.
Final Assessment – To be assessed as competent for this unit, you must demonstrate a satisfactory result in all assessment activities. Your assessor will record your final assessment results on the Summary of Assessment tool.
Before commencing the assessment tasks, it is recommended that you have read through all of the learning materials provided to you for this unit.
Assessment Task 1 – Risk Management Plan
Your workplace has requested that you review the current risk management procedures that are in place and develop a risk management plan for an area that is not currently meeting the risk management standards.
This may be in relation to the following:
• Workplace health & Safety
• Worker and/or client injury, incidents and illness
• Availability of resources including staff
• Documentation
You will be required to submit a summary report of your findings that includes the information outlined in each of the following tasks. Your summary report will be submitted with your risk register and risk management plan. You are able to work in small groups of 3 to gather the relevant information for your risk management plan
Task 1 – Establish risk context
• Identify and document in your summary report, the organisation’s current processes, procedures and requirements for undertaking risk management in accordance with current risk management standards
• Discuss and determine the scope for your risk management process, include this in your summary report.
• Identify and document in your report who the internal and external stakeholders are. Communicate and consult with them regarding the risk management process and risks they have identified and/or see as being a possibility.
• Review and document in your report the Strategic and Organisational context of the organisation including:
• The philosophy, purpose and vision of the organisation
• The operational, social, regulatory, cultural, competitive, financial and political environment
• The organisational structure
• Existing systems and processes
• Relevant stakeholders
• The availability of resources including people and their capabilities
• In your summary report, identify and document the strengths and weaknesses of current arrangements
• Identify and document in your report the critical success factors, goals /and or objectives for your scope
• Discuss the risk management process with the relevant parties and outline what action will be taken, ensure they are supportive of your risk management strategies. In your report, document the parties you have consulted with and how they may be involved in this process (where relevant).
