Part 1: Research Compliance Requirements

To complete this part, you will research and assess workplace compliance against environmental legislation, regulations, and standards.

Task 1: Regulatory Requirements
Research regulatory requirements and benchmarks for environmental and resource sustainability in early childhood education and care (ECEC) services. Assess the current WELC procedures and practices to ensure they comply with each environmental requirement.

For this task, you must:

  • Identify the main point for compliance for each environmental requirement.

  • Identify and access WELC workplace procedures and practices that demonstrate compliance.

  • Document your research findings.

Task 1: Workplace Strategies
Evaluate workplace strategies and sustainability improvements based on the case study.

Scenario Summary:

  • Shelly, Michael, Yeo, and Kim are brainstorming ways to save water at WELC.

  • Water bills for the past three quarters have been high.

  • Shelly will measure water usage.

  • Michael is considering a water tank for long-term savings.

  • Yeo is exploring short-term solutions.

  • Kim is focused on children’s educational experiences and has added a 10-litre container to the sandpit for data collection.

Water Audit Summary:

  • Monday: Sandpit 4L, 1-hour sprinklers early morning, washing brushes and paint pots

  • Tuesday: Very warm day 8L, ½ hour hose watering, filling tubs for babies
