Task 1 - Provision of WHS/OHS information to workers
The following is a practical task which requires you to hold a meeting with your work team to explain WHS/OHS information. This may be conducted either in the workplace, or a simulated work environment.
The environment set for the task should be one that encourages questions and discussion.
Instructions to candidates
The Observation Checklist provided within this assessment will be used by the Assessor when reviewing your meeting. This checklist outlines the various components upon which you will be assessed. These components include the criteria and demonstrated abilities required to promote business networks.
Your assessor will be looking to see you demonstrate your abilities to:
• Communicate WHS information in a way that is understandable to your work team
• Articulate information clearly using appropriate presentation skills
• Use active listening and questioning
• Use appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication
Options for recording your presentation include:
1.Save your video recording as an MP4 file and upload this to YouTube (as an unlisted video). Provide the link in your submission. Instructions for how to do this are located below.
2.Refer to the schedule on the Learning Management System (LMS myAIM), to select a suitable time for your Assessor to attend and observe your presentation via Zoom.
Complete each of the following components for this task.
a.Prepare a presentation that you will give to a work group in your organisation on WHS. The presentation must include the following information:
• A summary of key features of relevant WHS Acts, regulations and codes of practice
• Important information about the organisation’s WHS policies, procedures and programs
• A description of WHS consultation is and why it is important to managing risks in the workplace
Ensure your presentation is developed using language and images that are readily understandable to your work team.
b.Hold a meeting with your work team to deliver your presentation.
During your meeting, ensure you answer any questions that your work team asks you. Also ensure you use questioning to check the understanding of your presentation by your work team.
Video record the meeting and provide a copy of the video as evidence for this Task.
Submit the following for Task 3
1.A video recording of the meeting. Instructions for how to do this are located below.
2.Consent forms for any members of the audience that are captured on video. A consent form is attached at the end of this document.
3.The presentation materials developed for Task 3, Part a, such as a PowerPoint presentation
Instructions for uploading a video to YouTube
1.Set up a YouTube or Google+ account
2.Upload your video presentation directly to YouTube
3.Select the video to be "unlisted" in YouTube
4.Provide the URL link to the video in your submission.
Task 2 - Hazard identification checklist and action plan
a.Use a hazard identification checklist (either an internal document or the one provided in Appendix 1) to identify potential health and safety issues in your workplace.
b.For at least two hazards identified, create a plan to record the actions you will take to improve health and safety in your workplace. Record this plan in the “Safe Working Environment” section in the Action Plan Template provided on the following pages. Ensure your action plan considers how the Hierarchy of Control can be applied to managing hazards.
c.Hold at least one meeting to verbally consult with other staff in your organisation on these hazards. Explain the hazards identified, the risks they represent and potential ways to manage the hazard. Use the meeting to gain feedback on the hazards and their management. Also use the meeting to seek input on any other hazards that staff members feel exit. After the meeting, record what was discussed in the “Consultation” section in the Action Plan Template provided on the following pages.
d.Explain how you promptly dealt with and communicated with your work team on any hazards identified.
e.Monitor the implementation of new risk control procedures that relate to your action plan. Describe how they are being implemented and how effective this is.
f.Complete and maintain at least two records of WHS incidents. You may use your own workplace or a simulated business to complete this part.
