The Task
The student is responsible for a PowerPoint project planning presentation for the given TAUNTON Warehouse Project Mandate which should comprise the following:
• A Title Page (1 slide) which contains:
o NAME OF THE PROJECT
o THE STUDENT NAME
o STUDENT ID
• A Project Overview (2 slides max) that includes:
o BUSINESS DRIVERS
o PROJECT OBJECTIVES
o EXPECTED BENEFITS,
o ESTIMATED COST,
o ESTIMATED TIMESCALE,
o MAJOR ASSUMPTIONS & CONSTRAINTS
• A Project Plan that includes the following slides:
o COMMUNICATION PLAN (1 slide)
o WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE (2 slides max)
o ACTIVITY LIST & NETWORK DIAGRAM WITH CRITICAL PATH IDENTIFIED (2 slides max)
o RISK REGISTER
Business Drivers
The Business Drivers refer to the reasons or justification for embarking on this project and why is the project outcome needed:
• Is it Market Demand? Strategic Opportunity? Business Need? Social Need? Environmental Consideration? Technological Advancement?
• Other reasons could include: Customer Request; Legal Requirement; Improved Productivity; Increased Efficiency; New Revenue Generation; Better Service or Product Quality; Greater Brand Awareness or Brand Identity?
• Clearly identify how the project will fulfil the business drivers Project Objectives
Project objectives are the outcomes, goals and deliverables that define the success of your project.
Project objectives must be SMART:
• Specific: they should be clearly defined in sufficient detail leaving no room for misinterpretation
• Measurable: there must be measures and performance specifications that would determine if the TAUNTON project objectives have been met
• Achievable or Attainable: objectives should be chosen which the team has a reasonable expectation of successfully completing
• Realistic: Set objectives the project team believes it can achieve. These should align with the team or company goals.
• Time-bound: the date or specific period by which the project team will achieve TAUNTON project objectives
Expected Benefits
• What are the benefits to be anticipated upon the completion of the TAUNTON project: Is it Increased revenue? Reduced Cost? Strategic or Competitive advantage? Lower overheads? More efficient use of resources?
