Highlights
Task:
Produce a research proposal that details the application of techniques used in protein biotechnology to provide a solution to the SARS-CoV2-induced disease COVID-19
You are required to prepare a detailed self-contained and budgeted research proposal, as you would for a grant application to the ARC (Australian Research Council) or NHMRC (National Health and Medical Research Council). The purpose of this exercise is to examine your ability to translate your knowledge of techniques used in protein biotechnology to real world examples in the field of Biotechnology. Your proposal may be directed to stop the spread or produce vaccines of various nature, but the approach has to be based on using the virus capsid information available on the NCBI web site (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/search/) and protein biotechnology tools to achieve your stated aim(s).
You must justify your approach by citing appropriate references in Harvard format. The preparation of a budget for years 1, 2, and 3 of the proposed research is also required, along with a budget justification. While it is acknowledged that you do not know what items really cost, your budget section will be examined on how well you justify the requirements for salaries, equipment needs and maintenance items (see assessment rubric for more detail). You also do not need to list all chemicals, but you may wish to find out what major consumables cost, so that your budget is somewhat realistic.

Word limit: 80
Use of appropriate language
Sufficient information (ask yourself: can a lay person understand what you are trying to achieve and do?)
Keywords
List 5 keywords that clearly identify your proposed research (have a look at research articles to see appropriate key words are chosen
Maximum character per key word: 20 (including spaces)
Clearance Requirements
List any ethical implications and required approvals for your proposed research.
Describe each that applies to your proposal in no more than 2 lines. Examples are: use of animals, humans, hazardous chemicals, biohazards, Office of Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR)
Aims, Significance and Benefits
List specific aims and state any hypotheses that are being tested. Include potential significance and future directions and/or benefits
Background and Research Plan
Page limit: 6 pages
Identify where the proposed project fits in the field
Substantiate any hypotheses (provide the rationale and logic (background knowledge) of how they were derived/built)
Provide an adequate description of the experimental approach and chosen methods
