Project Overview

Bacterial pathogenesis is the process by which a bacterium infects and causes disease in a host. This semester you will learn about the diverse mechanisms that bacteria use to attach to and invade a host, establish an infection, and cause disease. The build-a-pathogen project challenges you to design a unique bacterial pathogen and the associated human infectious disease. The project is team-based and will require creativity, imagination, and a strong understanding of bacterial virulence factors and mechanisms of bacterial pathogenesis. We look forward to reading about your novel pathogens.

Objectives

This assessment task is designed to help you develop scientific communication skills and important employability skills including teamwork and creativity. Upon completion you should be able to:
