Overview

Welcome to BUS122 Business in Society - Social and political actors shape the decisions of business and government as well as influencing politicians, non-government agencies, public services and a host of global institutions. In this Unit, we discuss various approaches to understand these interactions. This includes learning about how stakeholders influence business life, the key components of a business, and links between business and society and how CSR shape business practice and strategy and will use evidence-based research to evaluate debates about business political links. On conclusion of this Unit, you will be able to analyse and evaluate the building blocks of society and business and explain how they are linked together.

Strategic Themes

As an institution, the strategic themes of sustainability, equity, diversity & inclusion, and first nations guide and shape much of our activity. The teaching staff of BUS122 are working on embedding these themes into the content, assessment, activities and is continuously updating to enhance the coverage of the strategic themes.

Description

Students will be asked to complete a range of tasks prior to the workshop as per the LMS. Evidence of preparation for workshops will be assessed as participation in the study of this unit. This assessment is designed to ensure students actively engage with the content (such as reading, videos, podcasts).

There are five online quizzes based on the required preparation as outlined in each session block in LMS. Each quiz will contain up to 20 questions = multiple choice/true or false/ missing word(s) questions. Students will have 20 minutes to complete each quiz. All quizzes open 9am Monday of Session 1 to allow students the option of studying ahead and completing the quizzes in advance. Students will have one chance only to complete the quiz before it closes. There is no option to re-sit a closed quiz. Therefore, students are required to plan/schedule the time to complete the required readings and the quizzes. Be aware that once you start the quiz, it cannot be paused. You must complete the quiz within the remaining time.

Logging out of LMS or closing your browser does not stop the clock. It is strongly recommended that students start the quiz at least an hour before closing time to ensure they have enough time to complete the quiz. A sample quiz is available on the LMS. The purpose of the sample quiz is to enable students to develop the required skills to complete the assessable quizzes on LMS. Students can practice on the sample quiz as many times as required.

Brief

Write a plan that describes and analyses the development of a fictional society, drawing on readings, research and the details and information provided in the simulation below. Your written plan should incorporate analysis of the key concepts and actors introduced in this unit. It must be based on all the key assumptions and encompass all the key components set out below. It will reflect and apply the concepts and challenges discussed in this unit.
