Background and Situation 

Over the past few weeks, you have been progressing your work (defined in Assignment 1) in order to have an outstanding and well-received presentation and report (for Assignment 4).

 This morning as you read the Australian Financial Review (“the habit of successful people”) you noticed two articles. The first article discussed the ethical failures of a firm that was using data to identify cross-sell opportunities for that firm. The second article discussed a major cost blowout on a defence contract due to failures in project management. You know that the Lord Mayor and her management team read the business press, and you thought it might be prudent to prepare a memo that articulated how you were addressing data ethics and project management in your project.

 Your memo should provide the Lord Mayor and her management team comfort around two topics:    

• Data ethics… what are the legal and regulatory issues that are relevant for your project in terms of the data you are using and the solution you are proposing? How are we meeting these legal requirements? What are the stakeholder groups that could be impacted? What are the ethical considerations, and how are we ensuring that we are meeting our ethical obligations? How do we balance the achievement of what we want to achieve with the potential risks associated with ethics? (Strong proposal, providing confidence that the project is aware of relevant ethical considerations and is taking a considered approach.
