Two Board Members have expressed mild concern that a full outsourcing of the work might be overly extreme and have asked that the firm also consider whether they should limit any change to a “make-or-buy” decision. You have been recruited to provide advice and support to the Board of FireSafe as it considers these options, and as a first step the Board has requested that your team summarise and present the current research on how effect outsourcing has been for manufacturing firms in the last number of years. They have also asked that you compare and contrast make-or-buy decisions with decisions to outsource. You are required to present a report which will research and analyse relevant literature concerning the trend in business of outsource certain functions to offshore locations. Your report should provide a critical review of the growth in outsourcing and incorporate information on current and emerging trends in this area.
