You just started working as an Events Manager at Rustic Ranch Resort, a facility located alongside a scenic lake about 50 km from Kamloops. It boasts a variety of cabins that can accommodate up to 200 people, and a dining hall that can seat up to 300 guests. During your first week on the job, a couple visit the resort to check it out as a venue for their 40th wedding anniversary. Marcy and William Leung have both just retired from their jobs. They were married on July 31st, 1982 and are delighted (and somewhat surprised) to find out that the entire resort is available the weekend of their anniversary. They plan to invite 200 guests to stay the entire long weekend. They give you a $5000 cheque as a deposit and you book them into your online computer system. You are excited to have their business, as they mention having a large extended family and lots of contacts, so you expect this booking will help increase business for the resort in the future. The next day, the resort owner comes to you very concerned. The weekend of July 31- August 1 is already booked for a large wedding and has been for over a year. Some human or technical error caused the wedding event to disappear from the computer database. The resort already deposited the other couple’s down payment. You are obliged to now return the Leung’s their cheque and inform them of the bad news. You try calling them to explain, but soon find out that their phone number is no longer in service (they just switched from a landline to cellphone).
