The Task
Follow the steps below to write your report. Remember to ensure that you have key arguments within your work and link to references where appropriate. Ideas and assertions should be substantiated through use of high-quality reference material and key academic perspectives/views. It is essential every time you make a major statement to also think about key implications within the workplace too.
Step 1: Choose, describe and analyse an organisation with which you are familiar. This organisation cannot be the organisation you chose for Assessment task 1. To do this:
You could include the following examples in your description: Is it a multinational organisation? What size is it? Is it government, a non-for profit or is it private? How does this organisation manage employees? How do they manage their SHRM system? What contemporary SHRM issues is the organisation addressing and why? What are the organisations long-term HRM goals?
Analyse and critique current SHRM policies within the chosen organisation, in relation to their content, accessibility, efficacy, effectiveness, legal compliance, and contemporary HRM principles and benchmarks.
Step 2: After analysing the organisation and the current SHRM policies, you will be able to strategically select and propose two SHRM policies to be implemented in the chosen organisation. The two policies should be selected from the following list:
• Designing and implementing SHRM considering globalisation effects
• Cultural transformation
• Strategic workforce planning and talent management
• Strategic development of the workforce
• Aligning performance management and compensation processes
• Leveraging effective leadership processes and management competencies
• Sustainable human resource management
• Managing diversity
• Managing stress and improving workplace health and wellbeing
• The future of work such as managing the impact of technology and metrics
• HR analytics and artificial intelligence
• Managing employee voice and employment ethics.
Step 3: Then, thoroughly research the available literature to discuss the two policies and their potential implementation within the organisation. To do this:
Discuss why you are proposing the two policies: their purpose, evaluation, implementation of each policy in the organisation, and their implications in relation to contemporary issues in SHRM.
Critiques made on the current SHRM policies within the chosen organisation should be made whilst taking into account their content, accessibility, efficacy, effectiveness, legal compliance, and contemporary HRM principles and benchmarks.
Step 4: Include appropriate (and practicable) recommendations for areas of improvement and their justification for each policy in the report. When writing your recommendations, keep in mind the following considerations:
• How could the policies you have selected influence (or are influenced by) the organisation's strategy and culture, and its contemporary issues?
• How will the policies support the achievement of the organisation's long-term goals?
• Advise how the topic can link to the long-term goals of the organisation and then how the culture does influence i.e., High-performance work systems (HPWS) and the long-term goal.
