The aim of this assessment is to apply the fundamental principles and issues of operations management to design a comprehensive supply chain for a ‘start-up’ entrepreneurial organisation that is organising to bring a new product and/or service to market.

Building Material

Description:

This new building material uses a revolutionary new technology that combines carbon fibre for lightness and strength, special cavity thermal insulation, and fire proof/resistant outer layers and coatings. The carbon fibres are sourced from existing North Queensland coal reserves. Processing coal into carbon fibres will contribute to reducing Australia’s existing carbon emission levels. Using renewable energy from solar farms and battery storage, the patented process is likely to reduce Australia’s emissions by 1.1 percent overall, whilst the re-purposing of Australian coal to the building product is likely to reduce Australia’s ‘exported’ carbon production by 2.3 percent.

Introduction 

You are the Operations Manager for a new ‘start-up’ entrepreneurial business that is bringing new products and/or services to market. The products and/or services will significantly disrupt existing markets and businesses in the relevant segments. As such, your organisation will need to adopt a lean and agile approach.

Overall Task

Using subject material from weeks One-Three and additional research as required, design a comprehensive supply chain appropriate for organisation to bring the new product(s) and/or service(s) to market.

Specific Requirement

Choose ONE (1) only of the organisations below, and:

1. Draw a map of and describe the supply chain for your organisations product(s)

2. Identify all organisations and supplies in the SUPPLY CHAIN (real world organisations that will be supplying to your organisation).

3. Identify all downstream organisations and customer sin the SUPPLY CHAIN (real world organisations that will be buying from your organisation).

4. Identify and discuss the challenges that need to be considered in developing the supply chain? Suggest possible alternatives to the challenges identified.

5. Identify and discuss the value proposition of the proposed SUPPLY CHAIN for the organisation and product/service.

6. Identify and discuss relevant Order Winners and Order Qualifiers.

7. Write a Report to address points 1-6 above.
