Introduction The components and assemblies that this exam is based around is a four-stroke combustion engine. Four stroke combustion engine is the main source of power generation in different motorcycles and automobiles. Four pistons are attached at different angular positions on the crankshaft so that at any moment in time there is at least one piston/cylinder combination going through the power stroke. Four pistons are connected to 2 crankshaft through upper and lower connecting rods through internal and piston bushings and pins. Crankshaft is supported at one end through a ball bearing and through a flange plate to the flywheel.

1. Model a new component from the Drawing Labelled “Connecting Rod Upper” from the 2D drawing supplied and save it to the memory stick supplied in the folder “Final Work”. Prepare an A3 (420x297) size drawing of the component showing complete details of the component using different views along with all dimensions. Ensure you fully highlight any hidden geometry, important features, specify “AISI 4340 Steel-Normalized” as material and use an appropriate scale. (30 Marks)- Save Your Work after Every 10 minutes

2. Model a new component from the Drawing Labelled “Engine Piston” from the 2D drawing supplied and save it to the memory stick supplied in the folder “Final Work”. Prepare an A3 (420x297) size drawing of the component showing complete details of the component using different views along with all dimensions. Ensure you fully highlight any hidden geometry, important features and specify “Aluminium 6061 Alloy” as material. (30 Marks)- Save Your Work after Every 10 minutes

3. Create a new assembly file. Insert the “crank shaft”, “internal upper bushing” and “internal lower bushing” from the USB stick folder “3D parts & assemblies” into the assembly file. Insert “ANSIMetric Radial Ball Bearing Size 03-32” from the toolbox and assemble it on the shaft as shown in Figure 1 and make it fixed. Insert two instances of “seal” from the USB stick folder “3D parts & assemblies” into the assembly file and align/mate these two instances of “seal” at the first connection of “crankshaft” as shown in Figure 1. Similarly align “upper” and “lower internal bushing” onto the first connection of “crankshaft”. Save the file as “4 Stroke Piston Crank Assembly” in the “final work” folder on the memory stick provided
