Section 2: Problem Scenario
This section of the report will be identical to the other members of your group. This is where you need to write your problem scenario. Showcase what the problem is (health/participation/security) and how it impacts the persona’s lifestyle. This is where you should show why this is such an issue and why it needs to be solved.
Carol Paynes previously had a 2005 plasma television which had recently broken. Her daughter bought her a new Samsung Smart TV to replace it. She is unsure of how to operate the TV, and wants to watch her favourite old black and white films. Her eyesight has grown poor due to old age, and she struggles to read small text on screen and does not know how to alter the screen’s brightness. The remote confuses her as there are many buttons she does not understand, and the labels on the buttons are too small. Deciding that the TV is too difficult and confusing to enjoy using, Carol gives up and reads a book.

Section 2: Future Use Scenario
This section of the report will be identical to the other members of your group.
This is where you need to write your Future Use scenario. Showcase how your design solution introduced can improve the active ageing of the persona and tackle the problem they faced n the problem scenario.
Carol has finished setting up the Nanny TV and it has acclimated to her impaired vision. She has gotten sugar free popcorn and sat down to watch her favourite film, Casablanca. First she picks up the Nanny TV remote which wakes the SmartTV through infrared and turns on the Nanny TV box. Carol is then presented with intelligently suggested TV shows and movies which predict what she watches depending on the time of day. (In this case it’s Frank Sinnatra’s greatest hits and an old TV show.)
As Carol wants to watch a movie, she will hit the home button on the remote to be presented with the options of “movie, tv, music, documentary, sport, etc..”
Carol searches for a while and cannot find her favourite film. She presses the microphone button on the controller, activating the voice assistant. “Yes?” The assistant asks, to which Carol replies “can I watch Casablanca?”. The assistant repeats what it heard (e.g “searching for Casablanca”) and begins searching for the film (a loading screen). Once found, the film begins playing automatically with volume and subtitles set to her preferences. Carol sits back with her popcorn and enjoys her film.
Carol feels more engaged with the world and enjoys a greater state of fulfilment in her day to day life through this technology.
Section 3: Storyboard
This section of the report will be identical to the other members of your group.
Section 4: Specified Goal

  • This section of the report will be identical to the other members of your group.
  • Write what the user goal is (this should be an instruction that is given to the test user.
  • You can also include a very short paragraph on a user context – a brief breakdown of the solution itself / the position the user is in. E.g. the user is already a registered user of this app (a sign-in is only required) …
  • Carol will use the microphone feature of the remote to search for Casablanca.
  • The Nanny TV has a conjoining smartphone application that provides accessibility via.  customisable remote interface. The specific buttons Carol wants/needs are placed on the app’s main interface so it is easily accessible.
  • Optional ? an alternative if Carol misplaces the physical remote.
  • The TV remembers Carol’s preferences (predictability) - subtitles, volume settings & favourite channels.
  • Carol is confident in using the new technology by herself due to the simple interface and design and can watch TV when she wants.
  • Also has subtitles option for hearing impairment.
  • To navigate through the Nanny TV interface to search for a movie using of the controller/ AI Assistant.
  • Minimize the button click or use the microphone feature on the remote to get the result.
  • Section 5: Prototype Evaluation
  • Include link to your video (hosted on YouTube or Vimeo)
  • Remember to show at the beginning the face of your tester, before going straight into the prototype test

HEURISTIC EVALUATION SHEET
Evaluator name: User’s name: Date: User's Task: List of heuristics 1. Match system to the real world 6. Aesthetic/minimal design
2. Consistency & standards 7. Recognition, not recall (minimise demands on human memory)
3. Visibility of system status & feedback 8. Help users with errors & recovery
4. Error prevention 9. Flexible/ efficiency of use
5. User sense of control & freedom 10. Help & documentation

USABILITY ASSESSMENT
Summarise positive and negative finding(s) observed and include:- page/screen where finding was observed- the specific part of the task the user was doing when it occurred

IDENTIFICATION OF HEURISTICS

  • For each finding specify which heuristics were violated (V) or complied with (C). Refer to the list of heuristics above. EXPLANATION OF HEURISTICS
  • Explain how the heuristics are violated or complied with, indicating the cause and referring to specific design aspects of the technology/interface USABILITY IMPACT
  • Explain how the observed findings impacted on the user experience & task completion USABILITY SUGGESTION(S)
  • Suggest at least one interface design intervention to rectify the issue or improve the experience even more.
  • Screen/State 1 Screen/State 2 Screen/State 3 Screen/State4 Screen/State5 Screen/State 6 Screen/State 7 Screen/State 8 Screen/State 9 Screen/State 10

Section 6: Recommendations for Improvement

  • This should be a break down of the recommendations both your tester and you would suggest on improving for your paper/ digital prototype.
  • Showcase images of the screens that need improvement
  • Annotate on the images where and what specific design aspects you are referring to that need improvement
  • Provide suggestions and why that would improve on the design
  • How would that enhance the users experience based on the suggestion? E.g. add a back button to provide navigation between screens and allow user freedom to control (go into a bit more detail 1-3 sentences are fine)Example:
  • User stated that the background was too ‘lively’ and was rather distracting.
  • A suggestion of improvement would be to redesign the water background to be less distracting with fewer colours and ‘action’ behind the text. I would use a subtle animated ocean background to simplify the colour and animation and visually make the user feel calmer.
