Our global initiative includes education to promote cleaner modes of transportation and grassroots advocacy to advance more sustainable urban mobility. WWF is the global leader in conservation and climate advocacy and is a member of the Science Based Targets Initiative, alongside the World Resources Institute and the UN Global Compact. Commitments We’re committed to be carbon negative by 2025 & a science-based carbon emissions target Lime is committed to be carbon negative by 2025 across the entire company and supply chain and to meeting a rigorous science-based carbon target consistent with the Paris Agreement of limiting warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. This includes reducing carbon across our supply chain and carbon removal initiatives on the path to achieving an industry-first commitment to a science-based Target. Our carbon reductions will be externally validated by the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) and reported on annually. We’re focused on reducing our environmental impact, so cities can reduce theirs Our riders have taken more than 200 million rides. One in four scooter trips globally replace a car trip. By preventing more than 50 million car trips so far, our riders have prevented more than 17,000+ tons of carbon emissions worldwide. As the largest operator of a multi-modal micromobility service, our priority is finding ways to expand the carbon impact our programs have and find new ways for our riders to reduce their own carbon impact. That is a cornerstone of our recent partnership with WWF. Our goal by 2025 is to prevent over 100 million car trips each year, equal to the carbon that 65,000 acres of forest can sequester annually. We’re focused on getting people out of cars to reduce emissions To understand our impact and opportunities for improvement, we have completed two independent, ISO-compliant life cycle analyses. The results show us that extending scooter lifetime, increasing parts reuse from decommissioned scooters, and using zero emissions fleet vehicles are the biggest areas for making environmental gains. Focusing on these opportunities, we’ve seen a significant improvement in reducing our life cycle impacts, but we won’t stop here. In 2021, our goal is to reach a life cycle which is 10x less than a personal car and more than 20x less than carsharing per passenger. We’re designing our scooter with its entire life in mind Early generations of e-scooters simply didn’t last long enough. Our most recent models are designed to be modular and repairable, keeping scooters and their parts on the road longer. Parts made from recycled materials make up more than 70% of our third generation model. Dedicated to continuous improvement, we aim to build 90% of our scooter from recycled or low carbon materials by 2021. Our e-scooters are designed so we achieve nearly 100% landfill diversion with the right local partners when they reach the end of their useful life. We are also piloting exciting second-life opportunities for batteries. We’re committed to a zero emissions operations fleet We are transforming our local operations globally to rely only on zero-emission vehicles and cargo bikes. We’ll be fully electric across Europe in 2021 and we will aggressively phase out our existing leased vehicles by 2023 at the latest in the remaining cities we serve. To help pave the way for more electrification in our cities, we’ve signed onto The Global Climate Group’s EV100 commitment to utilize an all-electric fleet and are a founding member of the Corporate Electric Vehicle Alliance to advocate for policies, infrastructure, and supply for adoption worldwide. We’re powering our global fleet with 100% renewable energy Lime was the first micromobility provider to use renewable energy to power our e-scooters and ebikes worldwide. We’re now 100% renewable powered in all our warehouses and offices as well. Our energy portfolio includes wind, solar, and hydro, including many projects local to the markets we serve. This includes partnering with Polarstern in Germany, Planet OUI in France, Octopus in the United Kingdom, Mölndal Energi in Sweden, CleanPowerSF in California, Mercury in New Zealand, and a global partnership with NativeEnergy. We’re committed to continue localizing our renewable energy to support new forms of clean energy near the markets we serve. When you ride on Lime, you’re riding on renewables! 2020 100% Renewable We use 100% renewable energy for charging all Lime e-bikes and scooters, and powering offices and warehouses. Our commitment includes expanding the local renewable energy we use in the markets we serve. We are also aggressively transitioning to clean, electric operations vehicles for managing our fleet. 2025 Carbon Negative We will be net carbon negative for the company, service and entire value chain (Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions) with the majority of our emissions reduced or neutralized by 2025 aligned with our commitment to a science-based target and the stringent SBTi requirements on our path to our 2030 goal. Before 2030 Net Zero We will be net zero consistent with a rigorous science-based target and the Paris Climate Agreement’s goal of limiting warming to 1.5C.
Future Directions Introducing a new low-carbon scooter and decarbonizing our supply chain: Our next-generation scooter will be among the most sustainable transportation services in the world. It will expand the use of recycled materials, reduce supply chain and manufacturing emissions, prioritize a modular design, and achieve a longer lifespan. The new design, combined with zero emissions operations, is projected to enable a total life cycle impact per passenger on par with an electric bike, and less carbon than the average public bus, more than 10 times less than a car, and 20 times less than ride hailing. We have dramatically reduced the carbon impact of our scooters in the last two years by developing a more circular repair and reuse program made possible by our more modular, repairable design. This has extended the lifetime of our scooters and keeps parts in use and on the street before any materials are recycled. When materials no longer have a useful life, nearly 100% of our hardware components and 70% of our batteries are recycled, well above the leading global and European standards. You will see Lime continue to advance this circular approach with new, exciting secondlife opportunities, in particular for batteries. We will also identify and expand carbon reduction opportunities throughout our e-scooter and e-bike hardware procurement process, including implementing our new Supplier Scorecard, helping to decarbonize our supply chain.
Decarbonizing the life cycle impacts of operations: As the first shared e-scooter and e-bike company in the world to charge our entire fleet with 100% renewable energy, sustainability has been a core value since the start. We currently buy local renewable energy in France from Planet Oui, in Germany from Polarstern, in the United Kingdom from Octopus, in Sweden from Mölndal Energi, in New Zealand from Mercury, and in the United States from CleanPowerSF and NativeEnergy. We are now deepening our commitment to renewables by expanding our practice of buying more local renewable energy from the cities we serve. We are also accelerating our commitment to operate an all-electric operations fleet. With more than 100,000 electric vehicles operating in cities across the world, Lime already operates one of, if not the largest, fleets of electric vehicles of any company globally. Now we’re shifting our attention to the vans and trucks used to manage and maintain our scooters. Going forward, fully electric across Europe by early 2021 and globally by 2023. We will also use our demand to add to the corporate voices seeking to increase the availability of electric vehicles and their charging infrastructure globally. We are already contributing to this effort as a founding member of the Corporate Electric Vehicles Alliance and a member of the UK Electric Fleets Coalition to advocate for progressive electrification policies, expansion of electric infrastructure, and the increase of vehicle supply. We will also expand our current practice of using cargo bikes to manage our fleet.
