Literature review -
1) The causes of disputes can be for different countries Construction industry. However, they should be compared with causes of disputes in KSA and UAE construction industry.
2) The journal papers should be reviewed in a chronological order.
3) The literature review should:
a) make connections between different papers (chronologically).
b) it should explain the purpose of the research conducted (what are the key debates between different researchers and how it changes over time).
c) it should include a very brief explanation of what the findings of causes of disputes in different country’s construction industries are and how they compare to UAE and KSA construction industry.
d) This section should NOT describe the methodology used in the papers

An example: Ibrahim Mahamid (2014) conducted a study to find the key causes of disputes in residential building projects in KSA through use of a ‘questionnaire method’. This survey identified 29 direct and 32 indirect causes of disputes which were evaluated through use of statistical techniques (mean, standard deviation and coefficient of variation). Based on this, the key ‘direct’ cause identified was delays in payment while the key ‘indirect’ cause noted was inadequate contractor experience.
Ghazi Saad A Elawi et al (2016) performed a research study in relation to key factors of project delays noted in road and bridge projects in KSA from an owner’s perspective. The research was performed through data obtained and reviewed from 49 projects relating to infrastructure works from which 10 risk factors were assessed and classified into four subcategories based on underlying nature i.e., owner related, contractor related, consultant related and the residual category ‘others’. Based on this research, the most significant delays cause was identified as ‘land acquisition’ which was classed as ‘owner related’ and is part of the site preparation stage of the project.
Ibrahim Mahamid was concerned with listing causes however, Ghazi attempted classify the type of disputes. Also in 2013, academics were trying to list different sources of disputes and found “delay in payment” to be a top source of dispute. However, in 2016 academics are looking at disputes more broadly and classifying them into different types. The data obtained shows “land acquisition” an owner related disputes to be top source of dispute.
