This assessment is to be undertaken in a regulated education and care service.
For this assessment, you are to be observed on 2 separate occasions (1 observation by your workplace supervisor and 1 observation by your assessor). For this assessment, you will need to ensure the health and safety of children in a workplace environment.
You must be observed ensuring the health and safety of children in a workplace environment. You must be observed performing the following actions:
Consistently supported the health needs of the children in the service, including the following
activities:
- Contributing to the provision of a clean and safe environment
- Recognising and responding to signs of illness of children, including signs and symptoms of asthma and anaphylaxis
- Reading and interpreting authorisation forms, medication labels, medical management plans and other relevant medical information
- Developing children’s awareness of safety
- Administering medication
You are to document an example of when you administered/assisted the administration of medication to a child. Ensure that you include
- Copy of the child’s completed medication form (remove any identifying information
- The steps you took when administering the medication
- How you assisted and ensured that your coworker/s followed procedure when administering the medication
- Relevant quality area/standard/element
- Responding to illness
You are to document an example of when you responded to a child displaying symptoms of illness. Ensure that you include:

- What the child’s signs and symptoms were
- How you responded and what you did
- How you communicated this information to the child’s family
- Relevant quality area/standard/element
- Completed illness record
- Responding to injury
You are to document an example of when a child sustained an injury whilst in care. Ensure that you include:
- What happened, what caused the injury, details of injury
- How you responded and what you did
- How you communicated this information to the child’s family
- Relevant quality area/standard/element
- Completed accident injury record
- Health and hygiene
You are to plan and implement an experience with the children, educating them about health and hygiene. Document the experience and the children’s responses. You may like to use photographic evidence.
Ensure that in your documentation, you link the experience to the relevant Early Years Learning Framework practices, principles, learning outcomes.
- Supervision
You are to develop a supervision plan based upon either the indoor or outdoor environment. Ensure that you consider the following points in both the development of the plan and document your considerations:

- Skill, age, mix, dynamics and size of the group of children
- Level of risk involved in the activities provided
- Relevant quality area/standard/element
- Safety checks
You are to complete a safety check. Ensure that you document this (you may like to use a safety check form used by your service) and monitor the following:

- Equipment
- General environment
- Sun safety
You are to plan and implement an experience with the children, educating them on the importance of sun safety. Ensure that your experience implements appropriate measures to protect children from over-exposure to ultraviolet radiation.
Ensure that in your documentation, you link the experience to the relevant Early Years Learning Framework practices, principles, learning outcomes.
- Risk analysis
You are to complete a risk analysis of three toys/resources within the indoor environment. You might like to provide photographic evidence of the toys/resources. You need to document:

- Brief description of the toy/resource
- Any risks associated with it, including age appropriateness
- What steps could be taken to reduce/eliminate the identified risks
Your 2 observations will be observed as follows:
- 1 observation by your host employer / workplace supervisor that will be verified by your assessor from your College
- 1 observation by an Assessor from your College
