The aim of this assessment is to assess your skills in working collaboratively with people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues to provide support and facilitate links to other services.
This is a skills-based assessment that assesses your ability to demonstrate skills required in the unit.
This assessment is in 2 parts:
Part 1: Role play
Part 2: Short answer questions
Part 1: Role-play
To complete this part of the assessment, you must participate in a role-play in which you are working at the Indigo Community Services and Health Hub and meeting with a client named Jasmine who has co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drug issues. The purpose of the role play is to:
The role play will be observed by a TAFE NSW Teacher/Assessor who will mark your performance using the checklist on the following pages. Refer to the criteria in the checklist to understand the skills you must demonstrate. All the criteria must be met. Your demonstration will be used as part of the overall evidence requirements of the unit.
The role play should take no longer than 30 minutes to perform.
In preparation for the role-play, you will need to familiarise yourself with the following information and documents:
Part 2: Short answer questions
Answer each question in the spaces provided, using relevant resources including textbooks and reputable internet sources as appropriate.
At the end of your assessment, you must include a reference list using APA reference style to acknowledge the sources you have used to base your answers on.
Your answers should follow the suggested word count for each question.
1. Research and explain the long-term effects of Jasmine’s prescribed medication and the risks she is taking by combining it with alcohol.
2. If Jasmine brought her children into Indigo and you had concerns about the children’s wellbeing, explain how you would respond in accordance with legal and ethical obligations.
3. Outline 2 steps you would take to follow up with Jasmine and evaluate the effectiveness of the agreed strategies and referrals.
4. If Jasmine chooses not to implement the actions agreed to in the meeting, what are your legal and ethical obligations in relation to duty of care and dignity of risk?
