i) Explain why both acid (H2CO3) and conjugate base (HCO3 - ) are necessary in buffer system.

ii) Given that the normal blood pH is 7.35, what is the expected pKa of H2CO3 ([H2CO3] = 0.50 M and [HCO3 - ] = 0.100 M)?
