“Sarah, the older child of two children, is five and has just started school. Sarah, her mum and brother have recently moved to the area. Her mother describes this as a ‘fresh start’ after a difficult marital break-up. She has infrequent contact with her dad. Her teacher describes her as a shy, unhappy little girl who does not mix much with the other children.” (Walker and Crawford 2014 p 62)

Imagine that you are a social worker or human service worker tasked with helping Sarah to develop her resilience. Apply Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory and describe Sarah’s developmental stage using either Erikson’s, Piaget’s or Vygotsky’s theory. Consider what you would do and write an essay using the following headings:

• Introduction

• Adversities that may impact Sarah’s healthy development

• Protective environments

• Vulnerability 

• Resilience

• Conclusion

Assessment 2 needs to be 2700 words in length and supported by at least eight academic references adhering to Harvard referencing conventions. The references need to be distributed evenly across all sections of the essay. Use references from journal articles and textbooks used in this course.

Formatting requirements for assessment 2 are: size 12 Times New Roman font, 1.5 spacing, text justified, pages numbered, margin 2.5cm. Assessments that do not adhere to the word limit (plus or minus 10%) are not acceptable. Tutors will not mark past the word limit.
