Highlights
Question 1: Identify a system and perform the first 3 phases of the experiment design process: 1) Recognition of and statement of the problem; 2) Selection of the response variable(s); and 3) Choice of factors, levels, and ranges.
Question 2: The Excel file, "Q2.xlsm" performs a test on a system that consists of 2 factors, x and y. Starting at x = 0 and y = 0, attempt to minimize this system by changing x and y in increments of 1. Do this by using the one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) approach and the factorial design approach. Compare these two approaches with respect to number of tests required to minimize the system.
OFAT aproach:
1) Perform a test at x = 0 and y =0.
2) Hold one factor constant and move the other factor in both directions to determine which direction results in the response being reduced.
3) Travel in the direction that reduces the response until the response increases. Identify the location that resulted in the smallest response. If there is a tie, choose either location.
Note: if one of these ties includes the location you started at (i.e., starting location in step 2), choose the other location instead.
4) Change which factor is held constant and repeat the procedure (starting from Step 2). Continue until the response no longer decreases.
Question 3: For the two-sample two-sided t-test, what is the distribution of the p-value when the null hypothesis (and all the assumptions) is true?
