Question 1 - NETWORK DIAGRAM

ABC CONSTRUCTIONs has hired you as their schedule manager. Your services are required for a small project owned by FASTCON Builders, who have outsourced the project to your organization. Jeremy, the project manager (as your boss), has passed you an activity dependency table for the job. He has instructed you to produce (draw) a network diagram (Activity-on-node format) for the project. The activity dependency is shown in Table A below. Accordingly, you are required to:

Question 2 - NETWORK ANALYSIS

As an important member of a construction project undertaken by DONE&DUSTED builders, you are assisting the project manager in ensuring smooth and efficient management of the project. Your team has developed the following network diagram for the project. The numbers below the boxes represent the duration of the tasks in days.

Please complete the following tasks

1. Draw an activity analysis table showing the Activity duration, Activity earliest and latest start, earliest and latest finish, and the Total, Free and Independent float for each activity.
2. Identify the critical path and mention its duration.
3. Following your activity analysis table, produce a Gantt chart for this project based on the earliest start times for all activities. Make sure you show the dependencies properly. You can use handdrawn or software-based Gantt charts.
4. Assuming all activities have the same resource requirement (1 person per day), produce a resource histogram for this project. You can use hand-drawn or software-based (Excel) histograms.

Question 3- COST ESTIMATING

You have been tasked to conduct a cost estimation of a rubber tire roller for DEF constructions. A rubber tire roller costs $250,000 new, including the roller’s 8 tires which cost $2200 each and have a life of 3000 hours. The average fuel consumption of the roller is 18 liters/hour, and it operates under good working conditions for 2200 hours per year. Assume working life in good conditions is 12 years.

Other associated costs are:

• interest - 8%
• taxes - 9%
• insurance - 4%
• overheads - $9 000 pa
• fuel costs - $2.10 per litre
• lubricants filters, etc. - $1.90 per hour
• operators wages, etc. - $60.00 per hour
