1. Background Information You are required to design a traffic signal using SIDRA. SIDRA is software commonly used for intersection analysis and design in practice. We will have SIDRA learning and practice sessions in weeks 10 and 11 tutorial times. You are required to design the traffic signal using dataset for the congested intersection you used for Assessment Task 2. It is assumed that traffic through the intersection will grow at a compound rate of 3% per annum.

Calculate the traffic flow through the intersection after 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years. Check the performance measures i.e. degree of saturation, level of service and control delay at the intersection after 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years and compare against the base case i.e. existing conditions. If the traffic flow through the intersection is worsening i.e. level of service is deteriorating to level E/F and/or degree of saturation is above 0.9, propose some modifications which will improve the traffic conditions. These modifications can be soft e.g. changing the phasing scheme, changing the lane configuration or hard e.g. adding a new lane to the affected leg of the intersection. Analyse different alternatives, evaluate the impact of each alternative on traffic congestion and propose the best possible alternative. Logically explain why this is the best possible improvement to the intersection and what is the impact. 2. Required outputs

a) Input all the data into SIDRA including geometry and intersection counts, 

b) Successfully run SIDRA and process the data,

c) Try different phase settings and find the best design, d) Compare manual signal design findings with computer-aided signal design findings and explain the differences. e) Write a report that includes:

•  Intersection information (location, geometrics, intersection counts), ? Summary of manual design results,
•  A brief step by step explanation of computer-aided design process and cases analysed,
•  Printouts of SIDRA design (output from SIDRA e.g. tables, graphs, figures). Please provide only relevant information. A print out dump is not required. Provide key indicators e.g. degree of saturation, average delay and level of service in addition to key parameters e.g. number of phases and configuration, cycle times, green times for each phase etc.
•  Compare the manual and computer aided design,
• Evaluate the intersection performance after 2 years, 5 years, and 10 years,
