This assignment requires the preparation of a durability plan for the specified structure situated in the specified environment to ensure that the structure operates as designed for the specified lifetime of the structure and considering the requirements and risks associated with each phase of the structure lifetime.
The structure is a new bridge over the mouth of the Yarra River to be constructed between the two existing bridges (Westgate and Bolte) in Melbourne. The structure will have reinforced concrete piles and a reinforced concrete deck. The superstructure will be a cable stayed steel structure, with steel cables and piers.
The bridge has a 100 years design life and should operate over this period with no major rehabilitation but with normal maintenance and repairs. It should be designed to avoid initiation of corrosion in the reinforcing steel during the design life.

The structure will be in a marine environment within Port Phillip Bay at the mouth of the Yarra River.
There are no large industrial sites in close proximity.
The durability plan shall cover the different stages of the structure;
1. Design Phase
2. Construction Phase
3. Operation Phase
