The Design Project will involve the preliminary design of a new two-lane rural road with total formation width of 10m (lane width = 3.5m, shoulder = 1.5m) through various terrain. The horizontal alignment will consist of three straight sections that are joined by two horizontal curves. There is an Aboriginal heritage site bounded by a quadrangle, with vertices shown in Table 1, which must not be disturbed.

Draw Vertical Curves, at least 1 sag and 1 crest curve. Attempt to keep maximum cut depth to less than 1.5m to reduce or eliminate possible benching requirements.

Superelevation/Widening Calculations
Calculate the superelevation required on each horizontal curve, Superelevation development Length using the relative grade method, and then calculate the distances and positions for the “Tangent Runout Tro” and “Superelevation Runoff Sro”. Label the SSD, ESD and zero cross fall points on your schedule of chainages. Show calculations for any required Widening and Superelevation.
