Case Scenario
Maria Italiano is an 80-year-old married woman who resides in a residential aged care Nursing home facility. Registered Nurses (RN’s) provide leadership in the delivery of nursing care in the facility. The RN coordinates, delegates and supervises the care provided by enrolled nurses (ENs) and unlicensed support workers. The support workers (Carers) in the facility provide the majority of general care for the residents and have TAFE qualifications Certificate IV in Ageing Support. Maria recently has developed ongoing urinary incontinence. To manage this she needs to wear incontinence pads and routinely requires toileting every 2 to 3 hours by the support workers or
Ens. Frequent routine perineum hygiene care is required. Over the preceding one to two days the Carers were focussed on the care of other unwell patients and delayed the delivery of routine frequent care to Maria.
