Ms Faye Richardson is a 44 year old female who was admitted for diagnostic work-up of persistent abdominal pain. She is the mother of three children (ages 10, 8 and 6); she is employed in a management position with an advertising agency and works long hours. Her husband died this past year.

Faye has a history of smoking 1 pack/day of cigarettes. Her eating habits are irregular, and she frequently takes aspirin for mild headaches. Having been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis 2 years ago, Faye takes 10 mg/day of prednisone. Family history revealed that her father has complained of "gastric-like" symptoms for the last 10 years, although he was never tested for this problem. The remaining history was unremarkable except for incidences of hypertension in a paternal uncle and a maternal grandmother.
